-Red Wolf- -Deltoid Spurge-
-Giant Panda- -Beautiful Pawpaw-
-European Mink- -Spotted Wintergreen-
-Red-Crowned Crane-
The deltoid spurge has become endangered by the increase of construction and fires. To save this plant, the habitat it lives in, is being protected at all times.
The beautiful pawpaw has become endangered because of construction and fires. To protect it, the habitat that the pawpaw lives in is being guarded. The beautiful pawpaw is one important source of food for rabbits. Without it, the eastern cotton tailed rabbit would need to look for a new source of food.
The spotted wintergreen is endangered in Canada, Illinois and Main. This is caused by the decease of their habitat from construction. Bees in the surrounding area love to pollinate this plant. Without the spotted wintergreen the bees would have to find another plant.
-Due to habitat loss, death by vehicles, and illegal killing the population of the Red wolf has decreased significantly and very few live in the wild. Luckily in early 2008, the Navy finally abandoned a proposal to build a training airstrip adjacent to Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina home to many animals including the small population of wild Red wolves. The red wolf helps keep the balance of the population of prey.
-The European Mink is an endangered species because of hunting for their fur, competition with the American Mink, pollution within the rivers they swim in, and construction of river dams. In an effort to increase their population, captive breeding has been introduced to help send more of their offspring into the wild. The mink helps keep the balance to their ecosystem.
-The Giant Panda has a decreasing population due to their relatively short mating season only lasting 2 to 3 days as well as habitat destruction while the human population continues to grow in China so does their development. To find a solution, Chinese government has made an effort to restore and protect the bamboo that pandas need in order to survive.
-The red crowned crane is threatened by the over construction in the crane’s habitat, poaching, poisonous pesticide-treated grain, electric wire blocking their flight path, wildfires, and low rainfall that is crucial to the wetlands they live in. The International Crane Foundation has worked hard to protect these wetlands in which are breeding grounds for these crane’s.
